Château
du Plessis
House Guide
Bienvenue au Plessis
Welcome to the Château du Plessis, our home.
Since we purchased the property in January 2002, we have spent
almost six months each year, restoring the house and the property as
true to its XVth Century heritage as possible. At the same time we
wanted to provide all the comfort expected in the XXIst Century. Every
now and then we had to make some compromises in order to achieve a
delicate balance between those two goals. It is still a project in
progress. Nevertheless, we believe we have succeeded in meeting, or
even better, exceeding the highest expectations.
We wrote this guide with the intention of making
guests’ sojourn at the “Château du Plessis” as
enjoyable and comfortable as possible. In so doing, we have written
this guidebook jamming it with more information than anyone would ever
want to know or wish to read about. Not to worry, each section stands
alone, and most sections are indented to be perused only when to answer
queries about the operation of a particular feature or piece of equipment.
The bedrooms and bathrooms guides of operation are
nearly totally intuitive. But this is France, and one might discover
or recall that French intuition can be challenging to the American
mind. Therefore, we tried to anticipate your potential frustration
with the Gallic mindset.
The public rooms guides are equally intuitive with
the exception of the Kitchen and perhaps the Salon d’Été,
each with its own set of challenges.
The technology guide deals with technical matters,
such as how to operate the TVs, the DVD players, and the heating furnaces.
This last portion is almost entirely for the benefit of the gardien
(caretaker) and is written mostly in French.
The service guide is written mostly in French and
describes what is expected of the caretaker (aka “gardien”,
the housekeeper (aka “femme de ménage”, and the
local host (aka “the Local host”)
“A Month in Touraine” is available only
in hard found in a leather binder. Entitled “Chronicles”,
it is located in the bookcase in the Salon d’Été.
These Chronicles are intended for entertainment only, either to help
remedy jetlag or to occupy rainy days. It starts with a history of “Le
Plessis” and Thilouze, and goes into various tourist tidbits.
It also refers you to the story of our odyssey that led us into the
purchase and the renovation of Le Plessis.
Before you leave, be sure to sign the “LIVRE
d’OR” (red guest book, which is found on one of the table
in the entry hall). You can also Email your comments to gdekerchove@leplessisthilouze.com.
Feel free to include photos and narratives of your experience at Le
Plessis. We will endeavor to include them in the testimonial
section of www.lePlessisThilouze.com.
Bienvenue, enjoy your stay, and we hope and trust
that you will appreciate and take excellent care of our home.
